Ailsa Horizons Ltd aims to be a 'green company'. We minimise energy use and waste of resources in our own activities and encourage our clients and partners to do the same. But we want to take that a stage further by establishing trading subsidiaries with a distinct focus on renewable energy and carbon reduction initiatives. These subsidiaries will protect Ailsa Horizons' charitable status and will channel profits to the parent company to fund our charitable activities.

Our own renewable energy project is outlined below and information on our unique carbon reduction proposal is at Ailsa Climate Ltd - Grangestone Railhead. In addition to these 'in-house' initiatives our trading subsidiary will offer support to green projects led by other partners.

We believe that Carrick, and its population of over 20,000 people, is uniquely positioned to make a difference in combating climate change: Windfarm developments have raised awareness of the issuesThose same developments are giving communities finance that they can use to do something about the issuesScottish and Southern Energy, (owner of Hadyard Hill windfarm), has funded award winning home insulation projects in several villagesOther communities have projects underway that will reduce their energy consumptionThrough the Carrick Community Councils’ Forum, Hadyard Hill Community Benefit Fund, Carrick Futures, other community benefit organisations yet to be formed, and other community-based organisations in the area, Carrick is developing the structures to enable its 20,000 people to act in a concerted way.

Ailsa Horizons and its subsidiaries will be closely involved in this and we will make our own direct and significant contributions:

With funding from the Climate Challenge Fund, Ailsa Horizons has carried out a preliminary feasibility study of a site adjacent to Grangestone Industrial Estate, by Girvan. The study shows potential to install a single 2.5MW wind turbine – a small development by private sector standards but a significant contribution if owned by a local community.

The local planning authority has given a positive screening opinion on this proposal. Further development work is now underway making use of the balance of our Climate Challenge Fund grant. Watch this space!
