The company was set up early in 2006 to administer the first community benefit funds available from a wind farm site in South Ayrshire. The company is limited by guarantee, run by representative directors from the community council areas of Barr, Dailly, Pinmore and Pinwherry. It is also a partnership with Scottish and Southern Energy, the windfarm owners, and South Ayrshire Council.
Ailsa Horizons has been providing secretariat support to the company since March 2007. During that period HHCBF has obtained charitable status to reduce its tax liabilities, revamped its application forms and guidance to applicants, and raised its profile in the local community.
Community Groups from within the 3 community council areas that the Hadyard Hill Windfarm covers, can apply to the benefit fund to help finance projects within their area.
All projects must address the broad aims that HHCBF have agreed upon: -reducing Poverty and disadvantageimpproving the health of residents promoting care and support of vulnerable peopleimproving community safetyensuring easy access to employment opportunitiesachieving parity with national educational attainment levelspromoting a wide range of recreational, sporting and cultural activitiesimproving rural transport opportunitiesimproving rural business opportunitiespromoting environmental awareness and energy efficiency measuresbuilding the capacity of community groups to learn skills and develop experience with a view to them becoming sustainable organisationsusing the fund to match / balance other funding bodies for projects that otherwise meet the broad criteria.
There is no ceiling on funds applied for but where larger projects are put forward, applicants may be required to produce a business plan and other supporting documents.
All projects should be innovative and demonstrate widespread benefits to the communities.
Smaller awards can be made through a simplified process through the individual community council within the Hadyard Hill area.
